Assistant Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor of Special Education – Deaf and Hard of Hearing

The Teachers College Department of Special Education at Ball State University is seeking to fill two full-time contract faculty positions available August 2021. The faculty members will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the area of American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf Education and may also include field-based supervision of undergraduate students completing practicums. Service to departmental, college, and university committees is also a requirement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach courses in ASLat the undergraduate/graduate level.
- Provide supervision for department majors during field experiences (i.e., practicum).
- Participate in departmental and program area faculty meetings.
- Maintain office hours during the week.
- Collaborate with other faculty in Special Education as appropriate.
- Meet other responsibilities as assigned by the department chair and/or program manager(s).
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited institution. Experience teaching ASL. Proficiency in ASL.
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Deaf Education, ASL, Deaf studies, Deaf education, ASL interpretation, linguistics or closely related field from an accredited institution. Experience working in schools with teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing, experience supervising pre-service teachers; experience with on-line or blended teaching, using innovative emerging media technologies in special education, and teaching diverse populations, preservice teachers or interpreters. Successful college-level teaching experience a variety of formats, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid instruction.
Required Certifications/Licensures: Certification such as ASLTA (minimum—certified or qualified level) and/or Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) a national certification, or evidence of proficiency through evidence of an SLPI: Advanced (or Advanced Plus) – Superior Plus (or equivalent).
