Division of Nursing, Chair

Iowa Wesleyan University is seeking a Chair for the Division of Nursing. The Division of Nursing, Chair is responsible for the overall education of the nursing students, the development of faculty, and planning for the growth of the Division of Nursing.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows the policies and procedures contained within the Faculty Handbook for Iowa Wesleyan University (IW).
  • Provides leadership to faculty and the nursing students in furthering the objectives and priorities of the academic programs within the DoN.
  • Plans the monthly DoN meetings, publishing the dates within the DoN.
  • Reviews all minutes of the monthly DoN Meetings.
  • Oversees the DoN budget, reporting the disbursement of funds to the faculty.
  • Proposing a new budget annually to the University’s Chief Financial Officer.
  • Coordinates the nursing faculty workload assignments.
  • Serves as a consultant when advising students.
  • Participates in the activities of Admissions and the office of Graduate and Professional Studies (IW Online programs).
  • Fulfills the applicable policies and procedures as outlined in the IW DoN Handbook, Faculty Job Description.
  • Assists in writing grant proposals as directed by the administration at IW.
  • Supervises all contractual agreements with community partners.
  • Uses the nursing organizational chart as a guide for fulfilling duties.
  • Collaborates with faculty to prepare, revise, and approve the student learning outcomes, objectives, and competencies for all classes within the Division of Nursing (DoN).
  • Oversees assessment and program evaluation within the DoN.
  • Recruits supervise and evaluate adjunct faculty.
  • Responsible for ordering new equipment and technology as well as identifying new sources of funding for such needs.
  • Collaborates with faculty to review, evaluate, and recommend curriculum changes and present them for approval within the institution, the Iowa Board of Nursing and the national accreditation body.
  • Plans the mandatory, division-wide meeting with all nursing students and faculty.
  • Assists in the orientation of new nursing faculty, assisting the assigned faculty mentor when needed.
  • Writes and submits on time, the annual reports to the Iowa Board of Nursing and the national accrediting body.
  • Submits to the Iowa Board of Nursing, accurate data for publicly reported information posted on the world wide web.
  • Is an active member of the Iowa Association of Colleges of Nursing, attending all posted meetings.
  • Represents the DoN, at Iowa Board of Nursing meetings on a quarterly basis.
  • Represents the DoN, on University committees, particularly the Academic Council, and Curriculum Committee.
  • Participates in regional, state, and national nursing activities when possible.
  • Collaborates with the administrative staff to ensure the student files are complete for compliance with the Iowa Board of Nursing and the practical learning partners.
  • Develops partnerships within Southeastern Iowa for practical student learning experiences.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with the practical learning partners for student learning experiences, attending meetings to represent the DoN at IW.
  • Evaluates faculty for promotion in rank and tenure.
  • Interviews all prospective nursing students.
  • Enforces the policies as posted in the Nursing Student Handbook.
  • Assists in the resolution of student grievances; guided by the Student Handbook at IW.
  • Meets twice yearly with the Nursing Student Senate.
  • Meets at twice yearly with the Advisory Committee.
  • Is the Administrative Authority for the DoN, continuing education programs and Nurse Aide program. Assigning ad hoc committee members to the Faculty Development Committee in conjunction with the standing member assigned to the committee on an annual basis. Responsible for the oversight and reporting to the Iowa Board of Nursing for all continuing education programs either sponsored or co-sponsored by the DoN at IW.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in Iowa or recognized for licensure in Iowa pursuant to the nurse licensure compact.
  • Two years of experience in clinical nursing.
  • Minimum of two years’ teaching experience in a nursing education program.
  • Must have a doctoral degree at the time of hire.
