The Academic Advisor advises undergraduate students regarding university academic requirements, policies, and procedures. The Academic Advisor provides critical support for programs and initiatives designed to strengthen the academic success and retention of all undergraduate students.
- Independently advises undergraduate students about academic requirements.
- Evaluates and assesses student academic progress and makes appropriate recommendations regarding academic planning.
- Acts as liaison between the Center and college and student group advising units.
- Updates presentations and advising materials, compiles student data and create ad-hoc reports in support of the program.
Proven experience working with students, parents, faculty, and staff. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, including professional demeanor and ability to be a team player. Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel, etc.). Exhibits strong oral and written communication skills. Maintains excellent organizational skills including ability to prioritize responsibilities, multi-task and meet deadlines. Exhibits strong critical and creative thinking skills, and able to make sound decision making and ability to remain objective. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and maintain web-based systems and databases. Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, is desired.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
- Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
- Demonstrated experience in academic advising in a college/vocational setting preferred.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.
Full-time temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
