Job Description

Overview:
The assistant director of the first-generation success center assists in developing, implementing, and assessing resources to support first-generation students in their first and second year of college. The assistant director works closely with the assistant dean for student success and the first year experience to fulfill the goals of the area and honor the mission of the university while positively impacting the experience of first-generation students. The assistant director works with curricular, transition, and support programs and works collaboratively with a wide range of offices and academic departments. This is a twelve-month and includes evening and weekend commitments.
Please note this is a 2 1/2-year grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon receiving funding past the second year.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree required, preferably in higher education/student affairs or related field
  2. 3-5 years of full-time professional experience in a college/university setting or full-time in a college-readiness or other program designed to support first-generation college-going students
  3. Experience working directly with first-generation college student populations
  4. Experience working with access or success initiatives

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience working with diverse populations
  2. Evidence of strong written and communication skills
  3. Experience developing and sustaining productive collaborative relationships with colleagues (faculty and staff) in support of student success
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of current research, theory and exemplary practices related to first-generation college students
  5. Experience working with fundraising, specifically related to donors/grants
  6. Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese

Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 5-10 pounds.

Ability to work a flexible schedule according to departmental needs, which may include occasional evenings and weekends.
