Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
• Lead all aspects of the instructional program and ensure that there is a continuous focus on improving student academic performance
• Work with the Principal, staff, board, University faculty, and community to plan curriculum
• Support professional development and implementation of innovative and best practices in instruction and instructional technology
• Support research from University faculty and charter personnel for instructional improvement
• Work with Principal to develop, evaluate, and revise the district improvement plan annually
• Prepare reports and assist the board in evaluating the effectiveness of school programs
School or Organization Improvement:
• Build a common vision for school improvement with staff
• Direct planning activities and implement programs to ensure attainment of school’s mission
• Work with Principal to establish campus performance objectives for Academic Excellence Indicators using the campus planning process and involving site-based decision making committee
• Demonstrate campus progress using results to promote school improvement
• Provide opportunities for interactive communication with Principal, staff, students, parents, university faculty and community
Student Management:
• Ensure compliance with state laws and regulations
• Work with Principal, faculty, and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate
• Facilitate communication regarding student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers
Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions:
• Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools
• Develop and administer district and campus budgets with the business manager and university personnel based on documented program needs and estimated enrollment ensuring that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely
• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including accurate and timely reports of maximum attendance to requisition textbooks
Personnel Management:
• Select, train, supervise and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline and dismissal
• Approve all personnel assigned to campus
• Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff
• Coach staff and help identify and develop appropriate professional growth opportunities as well as accomplish improvement goals
• Work with district and campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities
• Support Sam Houston State University teacher candidates and faculty in providing field-based opportunities on campus sites
School or Community Relations:
• Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission
• Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community, parent and university involvement
Professional Growth:
• Develop an annual plan for growth in understanding charter policies and guidelines, innovative learning models, professional responsibilities and collaborative partnerships
• Serve as a liaison between the charter school district and the university to ensure collaboration, professional development, curriculum development and implementation, and best practices in teaching and learning
• Collaborate in research, when appropriate, with university faculty/staff
• Responsible for open governess
Master’s Degree; Current Texas Superintendent Certification
Experience Required for the Position
1. Five or more years of leadership experience in school administration, Charter School experience preferable.
2. Superintendent and/or district-level administrative experience preferred
3. Knowledge of school finance and budget management
