Job Summary

The Graduation Specialist Advisor will provide crucial advising services to support CSULB's Highly Valued Degree Initiatives. The incumbent will assist the Associate Director with program development and will work collaboratively with the department-based staff and faculty advisors, department chairs, campus advising community, and Enrollment Services to achieve university graduation and retention goals. The incumbent will create and build on activities that support the College's student engagement and diversity initiative as well as those that conform to the campus highly valued degree initiative. The Graduation Specialist Advisor works with fully declared Engineering majors to guide them toward graduation. The incumbent will maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of university policy and procedures as well as degree requirements across the assigned college.
Key Responsibilities

  • Program Development: Assist Associate Director with overall program development. Develop, coordinate, analyze and evaluate graduation oriented advising services i.e. Beach Pledge.
  • Advising: Provide graduation focused advisement to students. Conduct in-depth analysis of student skills, abilities, and previous academic performance as part of program planning and ensuring success in the major.
  • Assist faculty/student advisors: Coordinate advising services with Faculty Advisors and Department Chairs that reduce barriers to graduation for continuing/fully declared College of Engineer (COE) majors.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge/experience with MS Office to Include: Word. Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. These skills are needed to track and maintain data and prepare/format data reports. Ability to utilize knowledge of current principles and practices used in academic advising, retention programs/services, and the field of student development. Ability to provide retention and graduation services to all constituencies, develop and deliver essential information through written and oral presentations. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and ability to be a team player. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills necessary to make data driven decisions.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and three years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required. Master's degree or current pursuit of is preferred.
Licenses / Certificates

Transportation and proof of a CA driver's license/car insurance are preferred.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,025 - $7,159 per month.

Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.
Time Base

Full-time temporary position for (2) years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
