Job Summary
Under the lead of the Alternative Media Center Coordinator, the Assistive Technology Specialist will provide assistive technology training and accessible instructional materials to students with disabilities. The incumbent will oversee AIM Center lab and BMAC equipment, coordinate and track the distribution of software licenses and inventory, and support students utilizing the AIM Center computer lab. The incumbent will also aid in document remediation for students with disabilities and the campus community. Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student centered and equity minded approach in all communication and service efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct individualized assistive technology training and support for BMAC students
- Assist with editing and converting textbooks and course materials into various formats for students with disabilities and document remediation for campus partners
- Oversee AIM Center lab and BMAC equipment, coordinate and track the distribution of software licenses and inventory, and support students utilizing the AIM Center computer lab
Oral and written communication skills to communicate diplomatically and effectively with co-workers, staff, and students. Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and coordinate with others. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position with working knowledge of standard work practices. Organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and high attention to detail. Must have some knowledge of adaptive computer hardware and software, or have the ability to learn. Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, or other graphic software. Ability to use PC and Macintosh computer systems. Ability to work under occasional stressful conditions. Ability to manage time effectively and functionally. Must have worked with students or persons with disabilities. Experience working in a higher-education setting. Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion including evidence of equity mindedness in previous experience. Experience with utilizing an equity lens in employment practices and respectful interactions with others.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
Equivalent to six (6) months of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing, or storing materials, supplies, and equipment required. Six (6) months experience working in a higher education setting preferred. Six (6) months experience working with students with disabilities preferred. Graphic design background or ability to use Illustrator preferred.

Compensation
The targeted hiring range for this position is $3,338 to 3,697 per month, commensurate with experience. The salary range for this classification is $3,338 to $4,773 per month.

Time Base
Full-time temporary position for one (1) year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
