Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of EOP/Guardian Scholars/MSI, the incumbent provides a comprehensive range of mental health and disability case management to high-risk students with psychological and social concerns in the EOP, GS, and MSI programs. The incumbent coordinates, leads, and administers activities, builds critical campus partnerships to access to resources for students. The EOP/GS Case Manager coordinates several retention and engagement activities to support student success. The EOP Case Manager provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life. The EOP/GS Case Manager uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Case Management Support to EOP/GS/ MSI Participants
  • Provide generalist academic advising and personal counseling to all EOP/GS students.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Housing Act, and FERPA. Knowledge of how to support students with various disabilities. Ability to effectively advise/counsel students with disabilities in crisis and disability management. Experience working in a fast-paced office environment. Must be detail oriented. Extensive experience of over 3 years in academic advising highly preferred. Experience overseeing Peer Advisors component. Ability to develop and plan large-scale workshops and programming. Basic working knowledge of financial aid process and policies. Exercises professional judgment to determine treatment of exceptional circumstances. Knowledge of PeopleSoft as well as databases required to process and monitor applicants highly preferred. Knowledge of EAB- platforms. Knowledge of the University admission procedures and requirements to equity programs. Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and graphics software. Working knowledge of Beach Board and Beach Sync. Ensure confidentiality to students who request or are identified as requiring such assistance. Use sound judgment in interpreting issues, initiate referrals to other campus offices, departments, individuals and programs which can provide assistance as appropriate. Develop and implement other projects related to retention and/or overall program goals and efforts. Ability to work with diverse faculty, staff and student populations. Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and coordinate with others. Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team by establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position. Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. Thorough knowledge of office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software applications. Excellent oral communication skills and effective interpersonal skills required. Incumbent must have experience processing, answering and following-up as needed with office mail, phone calls, email and in-person visitors. Must be able to respond to complex inquiries from the public, residents, parents, prospective residents, CSULB employees and students. Due to telephone and in-person interactions, must possess the ability to understand, interpret and respond (orally and in writing) to a broad range of complex issues, procedures, policies, ideas, information and instructions. Excellent writing and editing skills (including grammar, sentence construction and vocabulary) to compose and proofread professional level copy of letters, proposals, reports, meeting notes, invitations and announcements. Outstanding grammar, typing, and proofreading skills. Skill in reading standard English for understanding information (e.g. business correspondence, legal and contract documents and University manuals, policies, procedures and regulations). Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships & communicate clearly & effectively with vendors, staff, peers, administrators, campus personnel, clients, state officials, and the public. Skill in developing, implementing and assuring compliance with office and University policies and procedures while maintaining good working relationships with staff at all levels within and external to the University. Demonstrated skill in conducting research, developing reports, and presenting findings. Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices and procedures to define problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factors, formulate logical objective conclusions, recognize alternatives and their implications and in generating solutions to problems as they arise. Skill in sound time management including prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner. Flexibility with changes in workload, under pressure of deadlines, competing requirements, heavy workload and constant interruptions. Ability to work under pressure and remain calm and focused, and to calm and give focus to others in an extremely hectic fast-paced work environment. Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures to define the problem or objective; identify concerns or factors, patterns, relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; and recognize alternatives and their implications. Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential matters with tact and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality of information as needed or to protect the rights of individuals. Skill in working independently with minimal direction, in setting priorities and schedules and in identifying and adhering to departmental objectives. Ability to apply independent, reasoned judgment, discretion and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough and technically accurate solutions. Experience with a broad range of Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and Adobe software to ensure that incumbent will be able to prepare a wide variety of correspondence, reports, forms, brochures, flyers, agendas, minutes, advertisements and text for printed materials and web pages. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Contribute and html would be a plus. Ability to interpret and apply financial aid and academic policies and procedures. Contribute to equitable and inclusionary work to support student-success that strengthen on retention and graduation. Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment. Understand the importance of using inclusive language that does not promote gender/ethnic coding, discrimination, and/or selective pronoun usage for faculty, staff, and students. Provide resources and/or referrals to all students to support to academic success, basic needs, health & wellness, and/or creating a student-ready environment.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and four (4) years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required. Master's degree or work-in-progress in student services preferred.
Licenses / Certificates

Valid CA driver license or ability to obtain a CADL within a reasonable period of time is required.

Compensation

The hiring range for this classification is $5,732 to $6,250. The salary range for this classification is $5,732 to $8,176 per month.

Time Base
