Responsibilities

Under the broad direction of the Vice President for IT and CIO, and as a member of the IT Leadership Team, the Associate Vice President of Academic Technology (AVP) is responsible for providing leadership and management of CSUN's Academic Technology services to support a learning-centered environment and enable student success. This incumbent serves as the senior campus leader to plan and implement academic technology strategies to support teaching, research and scholarship.

  • Responsible for oversight and leadership of: the Faculty Technology Center team (responsible for instructional technologies, including CSUN's learning management system); the Universal Design Center Accessible Technology team (responsible for implementing and supporting ADA accessible initiatives for CSUN students, faculty, and staff).
  • Contributes to outreach and design of services to support faculty and student research and the ePortfolio application team.
  • Partners with Institutional Research and the IT data and analytics team to develop plans to use data to inform student success strategies and evaluate effectiveness of academic technology services to faculty and students.

Qualifications
  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree. A Master's degree in a job-related field, preferred.
  • Equivalent to six years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience required; with three of the six years in a managerial role.
  • Equivalent to one year of experience leading an academic technology support organization.
  • Five years of direct leadership experience in a higher education university environment, managing a technology services team with an established track record of successfully managing complex technology projects, budgets, contracts, and staff and minimum one year of experience leading an academic technology support organization is preferred.



Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Leadership
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing and presenting information clearly and concisely to a wide-range of internal, external and customer constituents, including technical and non-technical executives;
  • Experience using project management skills in an information technology environment. Strong organizational, supervisory, and interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with a wide variety of internal and external resources;
  • Proven record of working effectively with faculty, students, and staff in an academic institution. Proven track record of building and leading strong teams and working collaboratively. Strong decision-making skills, ability to rely on data for informing decisions;
  • Proven experience managing complex technology initiatives, with strong project management and effective communications, working with cross-divisional teams. Familiarity with technology governance and faculty governance, strongly preferred.
  • Lead diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision of employers by fostering an ethical, inclusive and collegial work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to support ongoing improvement through courageous, resilient, and catalytic leadership.
  • Lead varying initiatives through a collaborative, service-oriented and communicative approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.



Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
  • Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
  • The position is currently hybrid (2 days in office, 3 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
