Job Description

Ball State University is seeking an experienced Retiree Benefits professional to support our retirees with their benefit needs. This position will assist with the administration of insurance and retirement programs through research, analysis, and administration of the university’s health insurance and retirement plan benefits.

As part of the benefits team, this position will have strong communication skills and an understanding of insurance and retirement programs. Duties may include overseeing the University’s health/life/dental/disability insurance, retiree health insurance, retirement plan administration, benefit orientation, open enrollment, phased retirement program, and maintaining benefits compliance.

Position Function: Responsible for administering all benefit and retirement plans, provide benefit and retirement communications, conduct benefit and retirement presentations and training events, provide customer service and resolve benefit and retirement issues; ensure accurate accounting of insurance expenses, manage special benefits-related projects.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; or in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, an Associate’s Degree plus an additional 2 years of related experience, or High School diploma plus an additional 4 years of related experience. At least one year of experience in a benefits, human resources, or related position.

Minimum Other: Proficient with Microsoft Excel; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability and commitment to create a culture of service excellence; ability to easily and effectively communicate complex information in a meaningful manner; ability to develop positive working relationships with partners and customers and and work collaboratively with peers; highly organized with attention to detail; ability to prioritize, manage projects, follow strict deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, management, finance or related field.

Preferred Other: Over three years of experience in a benefits, human resources, or related position. Knowledge of federal and state regulations including ERISA, COBRA, and IRS Regulations.
