Reporting to the Associate Director of Environmental Health & Safety, the Environmental Specialist is responsible for coordinating and implementing environmental programs, systems, and practices for various phases of university operations. As a member of the EHS team, this person works together with the Chemical Health & Safety Officer to assist with the inspection of BSU primary and secondary lab spaces.

Position Function: Responsible for coordinating and implementing environmental programs, systems, and practices for various phases of university operations. Efforts and various programs include environmental protection and compliance, hazardous materials management, fuel and chemical storage and spill prevention preparedness.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher in public or environmental health, sanitation, biological science, or related field; or in lieu of Bachelor’s degree, a high school diploma or certificate plus an additional four (4) years of related work experience in addition to the minimum experience requirement listed. At least one year of related work experience. May include related experience gained during a college internship.
Minimum Other: Working knowledge of programs related to environmental health and safety; must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy. Ability to wear respiratory protection, necessary PPE, and work with hazardous and infectious materials.

Salary range for this position: $50,000 - $60,000
