The School of Art seeks applicants for a full-time contract faculty, Assistant Teaching Professor of Art to teach a range of undergraduate courses within our Studio Art Foundations courses and a specialization within Intermedia. This is a non-tenure track, non-renewable, one year, full-time position.

Our Foundation program includes 2D, 3D, 4D and Drawing. Foundations serves a wide range of studio and applied art disciplines. Ideal candidates will bring innovative pedagogy, a broad understanding of contemporary art and design and an interest in interdisciplinary and collaborative practices. Successful candidates will have the ability to incorporate digital tools into these courses and emphasize formal, technical, and conceptual skills.
The School of Art has a strong Studio Art program with disciplinary specializations in Metals, Ceramics, Glass, Sculpture, Intermedia, Photo, Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking. We value a diverse curriculum which represents and emphasizes voices that have been traditionally excluded. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a commitment to these principles and an approach that centers their teaching on inclusion, diversity, and belonging.
Faculty members are also expected to function as collaborative, innovative, inclusive and adaptive members of the College of Fine Arts community, both within and beyond one’s home unit. All College of Fine Arts faculty are expected to be quality teachers, productive in creative and/or scholarly work, engaged in public service activities, and contributors to the Ball State and Muncie communities and beyond.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach a range of Drawing courses within a Concentration Major.
- Ability to teach within a minimum of 2 of the 4 following courses: 2D, 3D, 4D, Drawing.
- Teaching responsibilities in Intermedia include introductory and intermediate courses in time-based encompassing moving image, video, installation, performance, and sound across analog and digital media. Applicants should be proficient in uses of time and technology to produce visual and sonic artworks that embrace both 2D and 3D approaches to art-making.
- Expectations in Committee Service and Community at the Department level and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Master of Fine Arts degree by date of appointment. Personal studio practice in Intermedia and related exhibition record.
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications: Practicing studio artist or designer with a record of increasing exhibition/scholarly activities. College level teaching experience. Interest/involvement with FATE (Foundations in Art: Theory and Education).
