Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Reporting directly to the Interim Director of the Counseling Center, the Professional Services Specialist I is responsible for individual and group personal, educational, and vocational counseling; student retention; workshop presentations; program development and test interpretation; establishing and maintaining close working relationships with staff, faculty and administrators.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide individual, couples and group personal, educational, and vocational counseling.

  2. Establish and maintain close working relationships with campus staff, faculty, and administrators.

  3. Provide crisis intervention counseling.

  4. Conduct groups on diverse mental health topics.

  5. Develop and conduct personal growth/educational programs.

  6. Conduct test administration and interpretation.

  7. Maintain written case notes and use Titanium scheduler/database.

  8. Attend Counseling Center administrative staff meetings, case conferences and joint staff meetings.

  9. Maintain records and statistics of counseling and program activities for the semester and year-end compilation.

  10. Serve on NJCU committees.

  11. Provision of some evening services required.

  12. Provide additional services to the NJCU community as determined by the Interim Director.

  13. Plan and organize work to make efficient use of time and university resources and to remain flexible in an ever-changing environment.

  14. Provide “bridging” services as needed while student connect to additional supports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

. Master’s degree in clinical social work/licensed counselor is required.

. Doctorate in clinical/counseling psychology is preferred; and

. A minimum of 3 years of college counseling experience with a diverse population

. Have experience in working with diverse college age adults in a university counseling center;

Have experience or an interest in one or more of the following issues: substance use and abuse issues, LGBTQ+ concerns, eating disorders, and/or

International student’s needs;

Clinical supervision experience preferred.

Experience providing group psychotherapy and/or facilitating support groups preferred.

Demonstrate interest, expertise, and commitment to working with students from underrepresented groups through culturally-competent therapy and programming;

Possess effective writing and verbal skills; well-developed therapeutic and diagnostic skills;

Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred;

Possess strong interpersonal skills, and experience working as part of a collaborative, team-based approach to student services in a fast-paced work setting.
