Job Description
The Enterprise Applications Specialist position for the Enterprise Information Systems department will primarily support the main campus Banner ERP system. This system is responsible for all areas of the university and is the primary source of record for most data stored on campus. The successful applicant will be working with updating and patching a wide variety of components including Self Service Banner, Application Navigator, Banner Document Management, Argos, Degree Works and many integrations with those primary systems. Day to day responsibilities include making sure that the systems are accessible, working on trouble tickets, trouble-shooting issues, monitoring performance and ensuring a smooth user experience.
This position will provide technical support to configure and maintain the primary systems on campus and support all interfaces between primary and secondary systems as the system admin. A wide variety of technologies are in use at Ball State including Oracle, SQL Server, Linux, Windows, Docker and more. Servers are located both in an on-premise virtual environment and with cloud hosting vendors (AWS, Azure, and others). You will report directly to the director of Enterprise Information Systems and work with a team of DBAs and another enterprise application specialist as well as the campus community to make decisions about future direction of these systems.
Position Function: Serve as a key participant in managing enterprise applications with the primary function of managing Enterprise systems. 100% remote work may be award based upon experience and expertise of the selected candidate.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by date of appointment.
Or, in lieu of Bachelor’s degree: - Associate’s degree plus an additional combination of education or experience in IT equivalent to two years.
Or - High school diploma or GED plus an additional combination of education or experience in IT equivalent to four years.
Three years of experience managing enterprise systems including general maintenance, applying patches, and troubleshooting. Experience supporting critical enterprise systems as a primary point of contact. Proven analytical skills to acquire an understanding of business process workflow; strong communication and organizational skills. Must be willing to own responsibility for critical information systems; must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to support scheduled updates, and respond to unplanned outages on a 24 hour-a-day, 365 day-a-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other IT related field. Five years of experience managing Ellucian ERP Systems and Oracle Databases including general maintenance, applying patches, and troubleshooting. Experience with managing an enterprise environment using both Redhat and Windows operating systems. Experience working with end-users to enhance their utilization of enterprise software systems. Experience with client review to develop process improvements.
