Director of Major Gifts


Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s Degree in business or marketing or related field with at least five years of related development, sales, or marketing experience. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Nature & Purpose of Position
The Director of Major Gifts will cultivate and secure major gifts of $10,000 and more.

Primary Responsibilities
The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for planning, scheduling, implementing and evaluating activities to cultivate and solicit major gift prospects, who are capable of making commitments of $10,000 and more. In this capacity the Director communicates frequently with assigned prospects to discern and cultivate their interest in making contributions and to secure leads on additional prospects from key internal and external constituents. This position supervises Major Gifts Activities in decentralized units throughout the university. The position should have a good knowledge of Planned Gifts and how they might leverage additional support from prospects. The Director also provides advice and support to the President, Vice President for University Advancement and the Executive Director of Development. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications
Work collaboratively with a complex environment. Must be highly motivated, an energetic self-starter, sound judgment and decision making ability, and attention to detail with solid organization ability. Possess strong writing and verbal communication skills, and have exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills.

This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
