Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Director of Staff Human Resources, this position leads the development and administration of the University's compensation, classification, and employment programs for staff and non-academic Management Personnel Plan (MPP) Employees. This position is a member of the senior management team and participates in the development of strategic planning goals and process improvements for the unit.
Key Responsibilities
- General oversight of the classification and compensation unit and all related programs and initiatives including but not limited to the Cycle Review Program, Individual and Management requested classification reviews, Reclassifications, In-Class Progressions, In-Range Progressions, Temporary Reassignments, Stipends, Training Reassignments and Management Personnel Equity Program.
- General oversight of staff employment process and activities including but not limited to employment practices, recruitment, hiring and strategic planning for staff and management positions, and oversight of the campus on-line recruiting module.
- Develops, implements, and maintains administrative guidelines and procedures related to employment and classification and compensation.
- Work on special projects for division executives, and as assigned by the Director or Associate Vice President.
Advanced knowledge and experience with classification, compensation, and employment practices. Demonstrated ability to draft and implement campus-wide policies, procedures, and other documentation at a level appropriate to the position. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with a wide range of individuals throughout the campus. Ability to handle multiple priorities and to provide consistent, objective, and ethical decisions. Strong understanding of technology and its application to daily activities. Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and Powerpoint. Ability to effectively use Access, Visio and PeopleSoft or another type of Enterprise Management System.
Ability to conduct desk audits and attend meetings at various sites throughout the campus. Applied knowledge of HR principles, methods, and related state and federal laws/regulations. Ability to learn and apply University policies, procedures and guidelines including information security and nondiscrimination. Organizational acumen, results orientation, ability to make and implement decisions, persuasive speaking and writing skills, analytical skills, negotiation skills, judgment, coaching and systems thinking. Excellent public relations skills and professionalism. Ability deal with sensitive and highly confidential matters with discretion.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
- Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field required.
- Ten years of progressively responsible experience in classification, compensation, and employment within the California State University system or another institution of public higher education required.
- Strong HR generalist and experience with complex HR systems and programs, in a highly unionized collective bargaining environment required.

Classification Salary Range: $104,904 - $157,356/year.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Additional Information
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
