The Director of Academic Employee & Labor Relations is the primary resource person on the implementation of provisions of Collective Bargaining Agreements for Unit 3 and Unit 11. The incumbent is responsible for all processes and procedures related to lecturer evaluation, Unit 3 and Unit 11 CBA compliance, and professional development. The incumbent has oversight of academic employee leaves, background checks for academic employees, and ADA accommodations for academic employees. In addition, the incumbent is the custodian of record or academic employee personnel and medical files and as such oversees responses to information requests and access to those documents. The Director also supervises and supports development of Employee Relations support staff members.
- Manages all issues related to academic employee relations.
- Responsible for all processes and procedures related to Unit 3 lecturer and Unit 11 evaluation, Unit 3 and Unit 11 CBA compliance, and professional development.

- Oversight of leaves for academic employees, background checks for academic employees and ADA accommodation process for academic employees.
Ability to provide ethical leadership characterized by good judgment and discretion. Leadership experience in academic employee relations and/or personnel (postsecondary) in a collective bargaining environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills including commitment to modeling and promoting civility in the workplace. Knowledge of employment regulations, laws, and employee contracts. Ability to participate effectively as a member of a collaborative leadership team. Demonstrated skills in mediation and/or conflict resolution. Ability to develop and facilitate training activities. Ability to gather and analyze data, conduct investigations, and write clear and concise reports. Demonstrated commitment to faculty governance, consultative processes, and consensus building. Knowledge of CSU Unit 3 (Faculty) and Unit 11 (Academic Student Employees) employee contracts. Familiarity with employee relations issues for Teaching Associates, Graduate Assistants, and Instructional Student Assistants.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in labor relations, human resources management, public administration, business administration, organizational planning/policy, other related field, or equivalent experience required. Master's degree in relevant discipline or JD preferred.
Minimum of three years combined experience in two or more of the following areas is required: employee relations or human resources experience in a unionized environment; participation in labor management groups; resolving/processing union grievances; negotiations/collective bargaining; representing an employer (or other party) in front of a labor relations board or public sector personnel board. Experience in faculty relations in higher education preferred.
Faculty Affairs Employee & Labor Relations
Salary Range: $7,955 - $11,933 per month
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
