The Associate Dean (AD), CPaCE, under the general direction of the Dean, provides academic and administrative direction to self-support programs in the college; serves as liaison between the college with all campus colleges/divisions; plays a key role in diversifying, expanding and growing curricular offerings to meet the needs of the extended community of learners; and ensures compliance with relevant Academic Senate, University, system and federal policies and regulations. Working with the CPaCE Dean, the AD position plays a significant role in growing and strengthening CPaCE's academic and professional programs and campus and community partnerships to advance CSULB's strategic priorities of expanding access, promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion, and removing barriers to success for all members of the community as articulated in the BEACH 2030 strategic plan. This position will provide leadership, oversight, and evaluation of a diverse range of programs, including (though not limited to) integrated student services, Credit for Prior Learning-CPL, workforce development initiatives, and dual enrollment opportunities as they relate to the CPaCE. The AD is a member of the college senior management team with the responsibility and authority to make equity-minded policy and implementation decisions. The incumbent will work closely with multiple members of the CPaCE team to establish, maintain, and continuously improve the development, delivery, and administrative cycle of all programs. The incumbent represents the Dean at the Dean's request or in the Dean's absence.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree from a regionally accredited university
- At least five to seven years of progressively responsible experience directly related to planning, organizing, delivering, and evaluating academic programs (ideally in the continuing education setting) at the college level
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or administrative experience with adult professional learners
- Demonstrated commitment to and experience in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Ability to work in a diverse environment with multiple constituency groups both on and off campus including faculty, administrators, professional staff, and community/business partners
- Supervisor experience in higher education
Preferred Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate degree is strongly preferred from a regionally accredited university
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience of principles and practices in continuing education and higher education leadership
- Experience and knowledge of revenue-generating programs and budget management in a self-supporting environment
- Knowledge of and experience in online instruction and distance education programs including relevant technology platforms
- Knowledge of international education programs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated through experience communicating and establishing rapport with an ethnically and culturally diverse community on and off campus
- Strong organizational, decision-making, and strategic planning skills
- Demonstrated experience in managing and supervising diverse professional and support staff
- Experience working in a collective bargaining environment
- Experience applying higher education policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, and non-discrimination, as well as external compliance regulations (e.g. CSU, WSCUC, Title 5)
- Ability to maintain a safe, positive, and collaborative work environment
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Development and Oversight
- Provides general oversight of all programmatic units, including program development, management and Student Services
- Collaborates closely with department directors on program development, management, delivery, and support, including monitoring fiscal and regulatory considerations
- Works to coordinate between state-side and self-support programs in the same areas
- Serves as a champion for diversifying, expanding and growing programs to provide an equitable, non-racist, and accessible learning environment to the extended community of learners and the workforce of local regions
- Ensures financial accessibility, viability, and sustainability of all program areas and Student Services
- Establishes and/or maintains quality control (e.g. assessment) and service-oriented processes
Administration
- Participates in planning future strategic and operational objectives for CPaCE as a member of the Dean's senior team
- Provides transparent and equity-minded leadership in designing collaborative partnerships and accountability structures to ensure equitable, non-racist and just policies, practices, and programs that enable faculty and student success
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with CSULB faculty, students, administrators, staff, and external partners
- Represents CPaCE on campus committees and CPaCE Advisory Committee as assigned
- Provides direct administrative oversight for the Academic Programs Department, the Office of Professional and Workforce Development, the Study Abroad @ the Beach department, the American Language Institute, International Training Programs, and Student Services
- Monitors all fiscal and regulatory considerations for program delivery
- Other duties as assigned
