Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The Academic Program Coordinator will play a key role in the long-term success of the New Jersey City University Athletic Department. Easing the transition from high school or community college to a four-year institute is crucial in the overall student experience and ultimately the degree completion of each student. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of the Rising Knight Institute, the Academic Program Coordinator will serve as the primary academic advisor for the Department of Athletics. The Academic Program Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that students have a clear understanding of personal enrichment opportunities and academic success through fostering relationships with key departments and integrating into the University Advisement Center as the key liaison between the UAC and Athletics. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in overseeing department’s participation in the college’s registration process to ensure service excellence, especially during peak registration periods with a special focus on priority registration
• Ensure student engagement and communication to support efforts to increase student persistence, retention, and degree/certificate completion
• Oversee the maintenance of accurate and timely reporting, data collection and assessment, and preparation of reports relative to enrollment
• Work with the head coaches and athletic administration to ensure athletic commitments are reflective of student-athlete schedule needs while maintaining the commitment to timely graduation
• Develop and implement new programs and adapt existing programs for the enhancement and continuous improvement of the student development series, early alerts, student retention, and completions/transfer functions and student services
• Work collaboratively with UAC, attending all advisement and department meetings, participating in drives and other events, and maintaining strong working relationships with Admissions, Residence Life, Enrollment Management and Financial Aid leadership teams
• Provide early alert and academic success service updates to head coaches, athletes, and sport administrators for students to persevere and succeed
• Create and manages a strategic plan for retention through advisement
• Initiate contact to build sustaining professional and collaborative relationships with NJCU Colleagues and community partners
• Document student-athlete progress through EAB/ARMS
• Weekly to bi-weekly meeting with at-risk advisees and creating a contract regarding goals and purpose of education to enhance transition, retention, and academic success of first year and at-risk students
• Any additional duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Experience working in a unionized, higher education setting preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership in advising, academic support, transfer services, career services or related area within student services
  • Knowledge of the NCAA, student-athlete development, and eligibility
    Must be self-motivated, team-oriented, problem solver who can think creatively and produce outcomes effectively
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills
    Experience with CRMs, data analytics, enrollment/student management software
  • Must be willing and able to flexible hours, including work evenings and weekends
