Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Learning Assistance Center, the incumbent serves as a Coordinator of the Academic Coaching Program, working with students, faculty, and staff to provide learners an array of skills essential to academic success.
Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a program of academic coaching services that respond to current learning support needs. Identify current needs based on relevant inputs, such as direct interactions with students and dialog with other campus departments and units.
  • Assist with semester planning and daily supervision of peer academic coaches, including training, scheduling, and supervision of their work.
  • Oversee and continue to develop technological aspects of online services delivery and creation and maintenance of other electronic/online coaching materials.
  • Provide academic coaching-related training for relevant student employees of the Learning Assistance Center and for other ISAs, staff, and faculty from other campus departments and units, as appropriate.
  • Conduct outreach to disseminate information about program services to campus community and campus partners.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Understanding of the learning process, as applicable to different curricular disciplines. Familiarity with learning disabilities and the needs of learning-disabled students. Ability to assess and understand learning challenges in working with academically at-risk student populations, in order to direct to appropriate resources as needed. Experience and expertise in developing modes of online service delivery and use of relevant technologies. Experience and effectiveness in making oral presentations. Very strong interpersonal communication skills, especially cross-cultural skills. Experience developing and delivering learning skills support to students in group and one-on-one settings. Experience training and supervising peer educators in student service programs.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields (e.g., behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or job-related) and three (3) years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required. Experience developing and delivering learning skills support to students in group and one-on-one settings. Experience training and supervising peer educators in student service programs. Master's degree in a related field strongly preferred.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,606 - $6,562 per month
Benefits

Time Base

Full-time temporary position for one (1) year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date. 11/12 months appointment, grade 6.
