Position:

The department of Computer Science at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in several specializations at the rank of assistant professor.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and have research interests in an appropriate area. Preferred research areas are listed in the Preferred Qualifications section below.

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree in Computer Science or a closely related field from an accredited institution. All But Dissertation (ABD) candidates will be considered, but must have completed the doctoral degree by August 23, 2022. Teaching excellence and research potential with strong communication skills and the interest and ability to teach a broad range of courses in the areas of computer science and information technology are necessary qualifications. CSUN is a Learning Centered University with a research and scholarly activity component. The successful candidate will be expected to join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable students to graduate. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment and ability to teach, mentor and work with a diverse student population.

All faculty are expected to teach graduate and undergraduate classes both in the areas of specialization and in core curriculum. The teaching load may be reduced for faculty actively engaged in supervising graduate research and developing a research program. Faculty are expected to perform the usual curricular and administrative duties associated with an academic appointment, to engage in research, and to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to effective teaching. Faculty are expected to work with students on research activities, community-based projects, or other extracurricular activities. For the purposes of reappointment, tenure, and promotion, emphasis will be placed on teaching effectiveness, scholarly research and peer-reviewed publications, and service to the University and community including activities in support of student retention.

Preferred Qualifications:

Specialization in Computer Graphics, Operating Systems, Networks, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Cybersecurity, Database Systems, Cloud Computing or Software Engineering is desired. Candidates with specialization in other areas will be considered.
