Job Description

CONTRACT PERIOD: 10-month, part-time, temporary

POSITION AVAILABLE: August 1, 2022

JOB SUMMARY: Assist the head coach with supervision and coordination of both men and women’s track programs. As an Assistant Athletic Instructor, you will be required to teach, tutor, and instruct proper skills and skill development to student-athletes more than 50% of your time. Teaching responsibilities include instruction of physical health, team concepts, and safety. You will spend less than 30% of your time developing effective recruitment strategies, recruiting and following up on prospective students, researching and targeting high school and athletic camps as sources for potential student-athletes, and visiting high schools and athletic camps to conduct student interviews.

JOB DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist in developing and executing recruitment of quality student athletes including but not limited to: off-campus evaluation, contacts, organization of on-campus visits, and tryouts.
  2. Advise and instruct student-athletes on skill development.
  3. Be an integral part of practice and game preparation.
  4. Attend and instruct during all games, practices, weightlifting sessions, conditioning sessions, and individual workouts.
  5. Develop and implement an academic monitoring system of all student-athletes.
  6. Develop and implement a strength program.
  7. Monitoring the student-athletes’ growth within the strength program.
  8. Scouting of opponents and instructing team on the strategies that will be implemented.
  9. Liaison for the program with the Athletic Training Staff.
  10. Equipment and gear maintenance.
  11. Advise student-athletes in their day to day activities.
  12. Maintain a good working relationship with all athletic coaches and staff regarding facility use.
  13. Perform field maintenance.
  14. Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.
  15. Must be a professional, credible and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community.
  16. Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible.
  17. Must be able to lift more than 50-lb. objects; frequent bending, stooping, and
  18. Ability to work various hours, including nights and weekends throughout the year for practice, games and recruiting.
  19. Be able to transport team to the contests, and be responsible for their well-being.
  20. Could be exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Track and Field Coach or designee

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Knowledge of and strict adherence to NAIA rules is required.
  2. Previous successful coaching experience, playing experience and recruiting at the collegiate level.
  3. Ability to work various hours, including nights and weekends throughout the year for practice, games and recruiting.
  4. Excellent written/oral communication, as well as demonstrate strong organizational skills

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree required. Previous successful coaching experience and/or playing experience and recruiting at the collegiate level.
