Overview:
The Art + Design Department at Salem State University seeks to fill a full-time, tenure-track position in Graphic Design. The ideal candidate will have significant professional and teaching experience. They will be engaged in contemporary design practices across multiple media with an investigative and growth-oriented relationship to an ever-evolving discipline.

The NASAD-accredited Art + Design major at Salem State offers a liberal arts integrated curriculum structured to provide an in-depth experience in the visual arts and design with an emphasis on studio production. The Art + Design faculty currently consists of seven full-time professors, three professional staff, and a network of experienced adjunct instructors.

Salem State University is an Emerging Hispanic Serving Institution with Carnegie Community Engagement Classification. The university is well-known regionally for its expanded arts community including art, design, music, dance, theater, and creative writing. Responsibilities:

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

The Assistant Professor of Graphic Design will take leadership of a well-established, well-supported concentration in Graphic Design and play a strategic role in keeping the program up to date, including clear perspectives on curriculum development and engagement with our graphic design alumni and regional professionals.


Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have an MFA in Graphic Design (or related area) along with professional and teaching experience in the discipline. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to mentoring and student-centered teaching. They will be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and design practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have significant professional and teaching experience in the discipline, including engagement in UI/UX and other developing design practices. They will show commitment to developing new curricular experiences, community engagement, and mentorship at all levels. They will engage in the evolution of the discipline technically, sociologically and/or conceptually. They will demonstrate an interest in Latinx art and visual culture. Candidates with experience working with a diverse student body comprised of many students of color and first-generation students are encouraged to apply.
