Assistant Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor of Special Education—American Sign Language

The Department of Special Education has a full-time contract faculty position available in August 2022. The faculty member assigned to this position will assist in teaching and related programming activities in Special Education: American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education, aid in collecting data for departmental and accreditation reports, supervising practicum students, providing program input and development, and support our ASL lab.

Position Function: The faculty member shall have responsibility for teaching introductory courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the area of ASL and Deaf Education. Also, the individual will assume other related duties as assigned including:
1. Practicum and/ or student teaching supervision.
2. Program oversight and coordination
3. Participation in departmental, college, and/or university committees.
4. Other duties typically expected of a faculty member.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Earned MA or MS degree in Deaf Education or related field from an accredited institution.
  2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in the public-school setting with students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  3. ASLPI score of 3 or better in American Sign Language (ASL).

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Earned doctorate with emphasis in ASL and/or Deaf Education from an accredited institution.
  2. Additional years of teaching experience in public and/or private schools serving students who are Deaf.
  3. Experience with online or blended teaching.
  4. Evidence of scholarly productivity including published articles, books, professional presentations, and related activities commensurate with rank.
  5. Experience using innovative emerging media technologies in special education
  6. Experience teaching ASL
  7. ASLPI Score of 4 or better

Required Certifications/Licensures: ASLPI score of 3 or higher
