- Ph.D. in science education, physics education, or related field
- Undergraduate degree in physics or astronomy or equivalent
- Knowledge of U.S. K-12 public schools, science standards and pedagogical reforms
- Experience working with preservice or inservice science teachers and K-12 students
- Demonstrated effectiveness and excellence in college level teaching in science education, physics education, or physics
- Evidence of strong record of research and publication record, record of scholarship in science education or physics education commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor in Science Education at the University
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population
- Experience as teacher of record in U.S. K-12 schools
- Experience teaching physics (K-16)
- Publications, presentations, or other forms of scholarly communication aimed to both science teachers and science/physics education researchers.

- Teach courses in of both Science Education and Physics and Astronomy departments (workload will primarily be in Science Education than Physics -maybe be subject to change). [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
- Teach and develop undergraduate courses for a range of students including science and non-science majors and future educators
- Teach undergraduate physics and physical science courses
- Teach and develop graduate science education courses for the Science Education MS program
- Advise and mentor graduate students in both Science Education MS and Physics MS programs working on education-related thesis projects
- Develop and maintain a program of scholarship in science education or physics education resulting in publications, presentations, and funding
- Recruit, mentor, and network with preservice/inservice high school physics teachers
- Participate in service to the departments, college, university, and community

About Our Departments
Science Education's [csulb.edu/scied] placement as a department within the College of Natural Science & Mathematics allows faculty the opportunity to collaborate within the department on science education research, curriculum development, and outreach projects while also fostering close working relationships with colleagues from traditional science departments on grants and projects. The department offers pedagogy courses (in partnership with the College of Education and College of Health and Human Services), science courses for science and non-science majors, and a Master's degree program for practicing educators. The department's 7 tenured/tenure-track faculty (and 15+ experienced educators as part-time lecturers) collaborate with colleagues across campus on varied projects and grants. Some current projects include: PhysTEC: Physics Teacher Education Coalition, A-STEP: Aligning the Science Teacher Education Pathway, The National Center for Science in Early Childhood, the Young Scientists Camp (including a camp for homeless youth), DEEP in STEM: Developing Effective and Engaging Practice in STEM via Community Collaborations, and oversight of the CSULB CNSM Science Learning Center.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy [csulb.edu/physics] is dedicated to providing a rigorous curriculum with high-quality research opportunities offering an exceptional education for our diverse student body. We value teaching and research as essential components of education; our graduate and undergraduate students engage in research mentored by our 12 tenured/tenure-track faculty, leading to diverse career outcomes, such as teaching, industry, or joining Ph.D. programs. The Physics and Astronomy Department at CSULB has one of the largest number of physics bachelor's and master's graduates among U.S. master's granting universities. We have a strong record of graduating women and underrepresented minorities in physics. Our department is one of only six Bridge Sites of the APS Bridge Program in the nation to improve the number of minorities pursuing a Ph.D. in physics. Physics and Astronomy Department faculty have provided, and continue to provide, substantial leadership in diversity related programs in STEM.
The departments of Science Education and Physics and Astronomy have collaborated in a variety of ways to help increase the number and quality of our K-12 physics teachers. Joint activities include: PhysTEC comprehensive site (funded 2010-2013, project activities ongoing), leadership of the Southern California PhysTEC Regional Network (2018-present); leadership on the campus' Get the Facts Out project (2019- present); hosting a monthly Physics Demo Day and annual Physics Open House (2010-present); recruitment and support of physics majors into the field of teaching; and teaching physics and physics pedagogy courses.
