Job Summary
The Senior Academic Advisor, under the general supervision of the Associate Director of the University Center for Undergraduate Advising (UCUA), advises undergraduate students regarding university academic requirements, policies, and procedures. The Senior Academic Advisor provides support for programs and initiatives designed to strengthen the academic success and retention of all undergraduate students including Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) and General Education Governing Committee (GEGC).
Key Responsibilities
- Independently advises undergraduate students about academic requirements.
- Coordinates all support efforts for the General Education Governing Committee (GEGC) and serves as the University's GWAR co-advisor
- Assists senior-level members with maintenance duties of existing programs.
- Assists senior-level members with training of new advisors.
- Serves as a referral source for college and student group advising units, the Learning
- Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Development Center, and other academic and student service offices on campus.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Proven experience working with students, parents, faculty, and staff. Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills {e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.). Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, including professional demeanor and ability to be a team player. Exhibits strong oral and written communication skills. Maintains excellent organizational skills including ability to prioritize responsibilities, multi-task and meet deadlines. Exhibits strong critical and creative thinking skills, and able to make sound decision making and ability to remain objective. Able to work flexible hours, including evenings, is desired.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and three years of professional experience in one of the student program areas required. Demonstrated experience in academic advising in a college/vocational setting, preferred.

Compensation
CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,025 - $7,159 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Time Base
Full-time temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
