Educational and Experience Requirement:

Associate degree in related field. Two years relevant administrative assistant experience or experience in a related field. Prefer experience and proficiency working with Blackboard. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Performs specialist duties and services for the Smith-Hutson Scholars.

Primary Responsibilities:

Plans, develops, implements, coordinates and monitors programs or services for the Smith-Hutson Scholars at Sam Houston State University. Assists with planning, organizing, and directing the day-to-day operations of the department. Assists the Director and Coordinator with complex managerial work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning for the Smith-Hutson Scholarship Program. Plans and coordinates engaging program activities. Develops and implements techniques for evaluating student success programs. Assists in managing programs focusing on continuous process improvement. Prepares and reviews reports on the effectiveness of program activities. Assists with preparation, and oversight of standard operating procedures, training & operation manuals, and other regulatory documents. Oversees schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals. Assists in preparation of operational policies, personnel processing, purchasing, and departmental budgets. Prepares reports and maintains adequate records to monitor academic progress of scholars. Creates, revises, and distributes routine correspondence to departments both internal and external to the Sam Houston State University campus. Provides limited assistance to students completing SHSU financial aid, registrar, admissions, or other department forms. Plans, schedules, and directs work of student employees. Works with IT@Sam representatives in the creation and maintenance of the program website. Posts program events and information on the Smith-Hutson Scholars social media platforms. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to manage routine office and business functions. Communicates with other University departments, personnel, and other agencies. Requires sound judgment, resourcefulness, creativity, and initiative. Occasionally requires travel and weekend work.

This is a full-time, temporary, benefits eligible position expected to end on or before 4/01/2024.

Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
