Educational and Experience Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in related field. Master’s degree preferred. Four years of experience in student retention, orientation, recruitment, or a related field. Management experience preferred. Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience.
Nature & Purpose of Position:
Assists the department director with various initiatives and objectives. Performs complex managerial work providing direction and guidance in operations, planning, and communication for orientation and recruitment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Works with Visitor Services team members to program activities or staff for orientation and on-campus recruitment. Supports on-campus recruitment and re-recruitment efforts, including giving presentations to prospective and incoming students. Directs planning and implementation of in-person and virtual new student orientation and events. Responsible for working in event management system to manage events, including scheduling, building registration forms, event details, communications, and student data. Assists with establishing goals and objectives. Oversees and approves schedules, priorities, operating manuals, and standards for achieving goals. Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures and oversees compliance with policies and procedures. Identifies areas of needed change and makes recommendations to improve operations. Implements programs, events, and activities for students transitioning to SHSU. Maintains event communication plans. Monitors budget expenditures. Oversees the work of the orientation coordinator and student team. Trains faculty and staff related to orientation presentations and student engagement. Oversees the preparation of management and productivity reports and studies. Manages programs focusing on continuous process improvement. Develops and implements techniques for evaluation of program activities. Represents SHSU at national and regional conferences. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications:
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to manage business functions. Communicates effectively with various organizations, departments, and divisions across campus to host new student orientation sessions. Must possess ability to manage employees while effectively interacting with families and incoming students. Must possess superior interpersonal skills and communicate well verbally and in written form. Must have a thorough understanding of university policies pertaining to admissions and enrollment. Adheres to university requirements as it relates to new student orientation and retention.
This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
