Job Description

Admissions Visit Coordinator

Bennington College

Job Type: Full Time

Location: Bennington, Vermont, United States

Bennington College, a liberal arts college distinguished for its pioneering initiatives in higher education, seeks an Admissions Visit Coordinator to join a creative team of professionals committed to making the college admissions process a powerful introduction to the values of an uncompromising education. Members of the Bennington admissions team share an abiding curiosity and faith in the intellect of young adults and understand admissions as potentially more than a way into college—it is, at its best, the beginning of a college education.

The Admissions Visit Coordinator is an integral part of the Admissions team. The Coordinator provides scheduling and reception support and is essentially the 'public face' of the Office of Admissions. The position serves as the liaison between public visitors to the Office and College staff, faculty, and students. The position coordinates the schedule/activities of visitors - activities ranging from campus tours and conversations with counseling staff to class visits and overnight stays with current students - with an emphasis on a personalized and substantive experience. The Coordinator manages the Office of Admissions calendar, assigning events to respective staff and manages Admissions facilities to ensure a clean and welcoming environment.

Bennington serves a diverse student population inclusive of members of ethnically/racially minoritized, international, LGBTQIA+, and disability communities as well as diverse gender identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions, and political beliefs. Our staff and faculty also reflect diverse and intersecting backgrounds and identities. All employees are expected to be respectful and responsive to these differences in the service of building community that promotes student and employee success. Each individual (faculty, staff and students) will be accountable for upholding these values. The College's approach to pluralism and inclusivity—both as fields of inquiry and practice—is to prioritize flexible thought, and to invite the examination of access, value, power, and privilege through its institutional policies and areas of study. We encourage applicants from diverse realms of interest, backgrounds, experience, and accomplishment to apply.

Of utmost importance, candidates must be genuinely excited to work with college-aged students and their families as they explore possibilities at Bennington College. Qualifications must include a high school diploma or equivalent and 1-3 years of administrative experience; a Bachelor's degree and admissions experience preferred. The Coordinator is generally an external facing position and works with students at different educational stages, parents or guardians of students, and secondary school counselors and teachers who will tender a broad array of requests. Good judgment is essential to navigating the requests and expectations of such a broad constituency. Given the nature of the work - flexibility is a must. Candidates must be able to adapt to changes in work priorities and schedules with creativity and understanding. Excellent communication skills are required; the ability to build relationships easily/quickly and develop partnerships across all areas and levels of the College is essential. Candidates must have experience working with diverse populations and evidence a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Candidates must have a high attention to detail and accuracy. The position requires a strong technology orientation; experience with Google Suite and/or Office required. Experience with Slate CRM, and spreadsheets (Excel) preferred.
