Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director, Multicultural Affairs & Inclusion (MA&I), this position serves as the main administrative and front office support for Multicultural Affairs & Inclusion including the Women's Gender Equity Center (WGEC). In addition, this position serves as the administrative and resource center support and to the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) and Dream Success Center (DSC). The incumbent enthusiastically supports the University's strong commitment to the academic success of all of our students, including students of color, students with disabilities, students who are first generation to college, veterans, students, and to offer CSULB students a rich variety of expertise, perspectives, and ways of knowing and learning the quality of campus life.
Key Responsibilities

  • Administrative support to Senior Director, Director(s), and areas assigned by immediate supervisor.
  • Front office support.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to use discernment and good judgment when interacting with people. Establish and maintain cooperative professional working relationships with staff to meet the administrative needs of the department. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position, and to adhere to the time limits allotted for breaks/lunch hours. Skill in sound time management including prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner. Flexibility with changes in workload, under pressure of deadlines, competing requirements, and constant interruptions. Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures to define the problem or objective; identify concerns or factors, patterns, relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; and recognize alternatives and their implications.

Ability to maintain composure and equanimity during difficult and or challenging situations. Ability to handle and deal with difficult personalities; remain calm and attentive under pressure. Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment quickly, especially under duress. Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team through close collaboration and coordination with colleagues and others. Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential matters with tact and diplomacy, and to maintain confidentiality of information as needed or to protect the rights of individuals or the University. Ability to manage/coordinate multiple projects and tasks involving independent judgment efficiently and accurately. Proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Office software (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Teams, and electronic calendaring to ensure that incumbent will be able to prepare a wide variety of correspondence, reports, forms, brochures, fliers, agendas, minutes, advertisements and text for printed materials and web pages to promote program/events. Working knowledge of PeopleSoft student records system, preferred. Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills (including grammar, sentence construction, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary) to compose and proofread professional level copy of letters, proposals, reports, meeting notes, invitations and announcements. Skill in reading Standard English for understanding information (e.g. business correspondence, legal and contract documents and University manuals, policies, procedures and regulations). Ability to respond independently to inquiries via phone, in person, or email. Familiarity with CSU LB Campus, HR/Purchasing/ Travel/ Budgeting Experience, preferred. Working knowledge of CSU LB campus, logistics, policies/procedures. Experience in processing personnel documents, purchasing requisitions, travel requests, preferred. Working knowledge of standard safe work practices including office security and a safe working environment.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to four years of administrative support experience required. Experience in a service-oriented environment such as a women's resource center, gender equity center, cultural student resource center or comparable functional area preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • CA Driver's License preferred.

Compensation
The hiring range for this position is $3,276 to $3,407/month based on experience. The salary range for this classification is $3,276 to $5,148 per month.

Time Base
Full-time temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
