Summary
This position is with the Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration (ITA) Headquarters, Global Markets (GM), located in Washington, DC. The incumbent of this position will serve as the Deputy Chief Indo-Pacific Coordinator.
Duties
The Deputy Chief Indo-Pacific Coordinator will have a broad background in trade policy and negotiations. Strong organizational skills and experience leading a dispersed team and working across the interagency. The Coordinator will work to deepen the U.S. economic relationships in the region and coordinate approaches to address global challenges to advance common interests, support Build Back Better priorities, and enable American workers and business to better compete in the region. Duties include, but not limited to:
- The advancement of cross-cultural of negotiation strategies, pitfalls, and techniques as necessary to advance US objectives in sensitive international trade discussions;
- Implementing established policies, directives and instructions issued by headquarters governing relationships between the U.S. and the international partners and the appropriate authorities;
- Analyzing facts and establishing the policy position and possible alternatives;
- Overseeing the planning and management of major and continuing agency trade program segments which are characterized by coverage which extends to multiple businesses and industries and to a substantial number of significant U.S. trading partners;
- Assisting in the facilitation of engagements with partner governments, traveling internationally when necessary and appropriate to advance objectives;
- Overseeing Senior International Trade Specialist that have a responsibility for direction and integration of the contributions of senior trade professionals both within and outside the employing organization;
- Providing guidance and support to a team, including functional Team Leads; managing an interagency policy process to ensure close U.S. government coordination.
