Job Summary
The Accountant II is responsible for independently performing a full range of work in general accounting and financial reporting. Using knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and best practices, and governmental accounting standards the incumbent will analyze, interpret, and process daily accounting activities related to cash, banking, general ledger, and accounts receivable. Incumbent will also prepare a variety of monthly account reconciliations, perform fund analysis, update various monthly and year-end audit financial schedules, and support the collection of outstanding sponsored program receivables. The incumbent will also have the ability to analyze, interpret, and apply GAAP, GASB, and OMB A-133 in finding solutions to complex accounting problems, and make sound decisions and recommendations regarding accounting activities. The incumbent will communicate and coordinate with other Research Foundation and Campus departments implementation of inter-departmental accounting activity solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for multiple aspects of the Research Foundation Accounts Receivable and Billing processes.
- Performs balance sheet account and bank reconciliations.
- Review bank activity on a daily basis, for both Foundations, to ensure that all activity is recorded in the general ledger.
- Responsible for general ledger interfaces, journal entry preparation, and updating of financial schedules.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to use MS Office or other software programs to handle and manipulate data, along with efficient entry of data into financial systems
- Demonstrated working knowledge of accounting and related accounts receivable processes.
- Demonstrated ability to independently research and solve problems.
- Experience in preparing financial audit schedules and lead sheets
- Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and to be accountable for own work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated experience in customer service environments.
- PeopleSoft experience desired
- Intermediate to Advance Excel skills are desirable

Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, public administration, or a closely related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience required. Governmental accounting experience is desirable. Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, OMB A-133 highly preferred. CSU experience preferred
Physical Summary
Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
Hiring Range: $4,452 - $5,334 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training
CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,452 - $8,592 per month
