Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in related field. Emphasis in personnel services, counseling, business, and/or higher education would be helpful. A Master’s degree is preferred. Minimum of five (5) years in Financial Aid Programs or related experience, with three (3) preferred in a leadership/supervisory position. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Ensures all eligible students receive financial aid funds to cover college costs while remaining in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. Performs complex and highly advanced work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning for the Financial Aid & Scholarships office. Serves as the University’s primary authority on financial aid requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
Provides leadership, vision, and management for the Financial Aid & Scholarships department. Responsible for organizing, planning, and evaluating personnel, work assignments, supervision, training, and the technical direction of staff. Develops activities, policies, procedures, and departmental culture that facilities, promotes, and sustains collaboration with the campus community. Develops, documents, and implements internal control procedures to ensure fiscal, regulatory, confidentiality, and security accountability. Evaluates programs and services to identify areas of strengths and necessary improvements. Develops strategies and processes to optimize departmental and institutional operations and strategic priorities/goals. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws, University policy, and divisional directives. Organizes and plans strategies for implementing new federal and state regulations and procedures. Works collaboratively with the enrollment team and student service offices to align financial aid strategies with recruitment and retention efforts to support SHSU’s enrollment goals and the financial health of the university while maintaining compliance. Assists and advises the AVP of Enrollment Services on how best to market and utilize limited institutional, federal, and state funds to maximize retention of current students and recruit new students. Provides accurate and timely reports to professional staff and governing bodies/agencies. Represents the Financial Aid & Scholarships office to various agencies, auditors, high schools, scholarship foundations, professional associations, and current and prospective students and their families. Manages the financial aid budget, forecasts trends, and annually balances funds with federal and state agencies, and SHSU budgetary authorities. Ensures all federal, state, and institutional funds are reconciled and reported to the proper authority in a timely manner. Tests and manages the institution’s operating system to ensure that the system complies with federal and state financial aid regulations and that it provides needed services to students. Serves on committees as requested. Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
