Educational Requirements for the Position

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Two years of experience in a related field. One-year related work experience in an educational environment dealing with student activities, programs, extra-curricular activities, promotions, or special events preferred. Experience at an institution of higher education is desired. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Assists the Director of Student Activities with coordinating large scale events, activities, and programs for the University. Performs moderately complex managerial work providing direction and guidance in operations and planning in Student Activities.

Primary Responsibilities

Performs all tasks related to the operation of campus-wide special events such as Welcome Week, Bearkat Alley, Homecoming, Tree of Light, The Sammy Awards, and other special events as created or assigned. Assists in the coordination of all brochures and publicity releases pertaining to special event programs. Assists with establishing goals and objectives. Develops and approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals. Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates policies and procedures and monitors compliance with policies and procedures. Develops schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals. Identifies areas of needed change and makes recommendations to improve operations. Serves as a resource person and liaison advisor to students, faculty, and staff members, as well as campus organizations, on matters of programming and entertainment. Monitors budget expenditures. Manages, arranges, and implements events. Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others. Oversees the preparation of management and productivity reports and studies. Participates in strategic planning regarding Student Activities. Identifies and coordinates artist contracting, programming staff selection, and training workshops for Student Activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications

Requires occasional outside work for events and involves exposure to various weather elements. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to manage business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, and other agencies.

Position requires driving and operating a university vehicle, therefore, a valid Texas driver license and driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance carrier is required.

Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.

This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
