Job Description
Ball State University welcomes applications for the Assistant Director of Procurement Operations and Logistics in Purchasing Services.
Purchasing Services is a department of Business and Auxiliary Services funded through the University General Fund. Purchasing Services includes 26 employees supporting and enhancing the Ball State University mission and the day-to-day student, employee, and guest experience by providing the following essential functions: University Procurement; University Procurement Cards; Public Works; Auxiliary Revenue Contracts; Central Stores, Receiving and Inventory Control; Moving, Storage and Excess, Equipment Loan; Central and Bulk Mail; Printing Services; Cardinal Copy Center, and University Barnes & Noble Bookstore. Each year, Purchasing Services processes approximately 25 requests for proposals (RFP’s), 200 requests for quotes (RFQ’s), 20 public works projects, 32,000 requisitions, 31,000 purchase orders, 70,000 central stores inventory sales transactions, 825,000 pieces of outgoing mail, 450,000 pieces of incoming mail, 35,000 packages, 19,000 bulk shipments, 3,500 tables and chairs order requests, and an additional 250 events supply requests annually.

Position Function: Develop and oversee implementation and maintenance of electronic systems in the Purchasing Services Office within Business Affairs; lead and direct special projects on behalf of the Director of Purchasing Services; coordinate and supervise technical assistance, analytical assistance, training and support for the existing purchasing systems; provide direct supervision to assigned personnel.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Three years of relevant professional experience; experience in research, analysis, special projects, and continuous improvement initiatives; experience working directly/closely with leadership; experience working in and managing a fast-paced and dynamic day-to-day office environment; supervisory experience.
Minimum Other: High level of initiative and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain flexibility in a rapidly evolving work environment; strong logistics/project management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple high-priority projects/tasks with competing priorities and deadlines; collaborative nature with the ability to work independently; strong interpersonal and communication skills, diplomacy, and commitment to professionalism; sound judgment and ability to interact with a diverse group of people; discretion and confidentiality with sensitive information and matters.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
