Salary: Starting salary range of $50,648 - $58,241 is based on the Lee College Administrative/Administrative Support Salary Scale, C42. Placement on scale is commensurate with education and experience.

Job Summary/Basic Function:
This position will provide intensive, supportive retention services for Job Corp Scholars both during and after enrollment so that Job Corps Scholars' student success can be realized through the completion of relevant fast-track training and better employment outcomes.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

An advisor must ensure the delivery of the specific services described below to all Job Corp Scholars.

  • Conduct intake assessments to identify and create a strategy to address the personal developmental, social, and academic strengths and challenges of each student including:
      • Identifying personal and academic strengths and challenges that must be considered and/or addressed during career and employment counseling and planning.
      • Developing, documenting, implementing, and monitoring the intervention strategies specifically designed to address personal developmental, social, and academic challenges.
      • Regularly assessing intervention strategies to develop and implement any necessary modifications to allow for student improvement.
      • Establishing and monitoring progress toward scholar's short‐ and long‐term personal and career goals.
      • Encouraging the development of a peer learning community among the cohort including group advising as appropriate.

  • Assist scholars with the enrollment processes including college application, grant application, academic, and career assessment testing, registration, background checks, vaccination requirements (if applicable), and financial applications including, but not limited to FAFSA and Foundation scholarship opportunities.
  • Identify, provide and/or coordinate the delivery of all fiscal resources, including institution, state, and federal, to meet scholars identified personal developmental, social and academic needs including but not limited to tuition and fee scholarships, academic tutoring, and mentoring services, and individual psychological and/or emotional counseling, if appropriate.
  • Advising in collaboration with career and employment counselors based on various assessments including employment prospects and the student's interests and aptitude/skill level to recommend the most appropriate technical training career pathway.
  • Advising on the quality of the various skills training certification programs, including employability and/or labor market demand, and earnings potential.
  • Regularly assess how the student is progressing in his/her education and career technical training.
  • Collaborating and sharing information with other staff, departments, and community resources to ensure the coordinated delivery of needed services to each scholar.
  • Assist in mediating high-risk factors that may lead to scholars dropping out including assessing transitional support needs, developing strategies to meet those needs, and working with employment counselors.
  • Assist in researching, developing, and tracking practices that will assist in retaining the opportunity youth special population.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Work with VP of Instruction, Project Director, and Faculty to identify, schedule, and market eligible fast track training.
  • Identify and recruit eligible Job Corp Scholars for fast track certification training including developing a marketing campaign and presentations for the target audience.
  • Conduct DOL Job Corp Scholars orientations and workshops throughout the year.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from participants and potential participants in a timely fashion.
  • Work with Employment Counselors to track and record each scholars' progress toward personal and academic goals including, measurable skill gains, education, and employment rates, median earnings, retention, completion, credential attainment, and effectiveness in serving employers.
  • Must be a subject matter expert on all processes regarding the DOL project plan including institutional policy and procedures and applicable federal regulations.
  • Assist Project Director in required DOL quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc reporting.
  • Assist Project Director in disseminating program performances measures, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Maintain participant's files including proof of eligibility documents.
  • Conduct project plan from an audit-ready position.
  • Participate in evening and weekend events and activities.
  • Participate in professional development activities and training as required.
  • Attend DOL workshops and training as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Excellent benefits accrue with this full-time position. This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of the position is based on the continuation of the grant and satisfactory job performance. This is a security-sensitive position.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Higher Education, Social Work, Advising/Counseling, or a related field
  • Two (2) years of post-secondary outreach experience, instruction, or student support services
  • Impeccable reputation with regard to ethics and integrity
  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal abilities and public relations experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
  • Excellent organizational skills, self‐starter with strong time management skills
  • Must be able to travel locally and regionally to recruit participants
  • Must be able to meet hard deadlines outlined by the DOL
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of methods for job development, local labor market trends, and employment opportunities
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information
  • Ability to work with and engage individuals if diverse backgrounds including veterans
  • Must possess awareness of and be sensitive to cultural differences
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with opportunity youth
  • Experience with federal grants or project management
  • Bilingual: ability to read, write, and speak both English and Spanish
