Job Summary

This position oversees the communications in the college. The incumbent in this position develops and maintains a pipeline to facilitate CNSM faculty departments, centers, and programs reporting of accomplishments, events, and other pertinent information for the college's public relations; writes, edits copy to be used for various purposes in the college, including the college newsletter, the CNSM Website, and various social media accounts.
Key Responsibilities

  • Under general direction from the Dean, coordinates, writes, edits, and disseminates college-wide communications.
  • Assists Dean's Office staff in the development (including co-writing, editing) of content for college print and online communications as assigned.
  • Assists in the development of the communications pipeline between departments and the college office, including, but not limited to collection of annual report data.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent writing and editing abilities for news, creative, and feature formats
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sound understanding of communications and media relations
  • Strong working knowledge of and understanding of the academic world
  • Skills using social media, website content management tools, desktop publishing and graphics software required
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service in a busy office environment
  • Ability to maintain sensitive information confidential

Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, or Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent work experience and three (3) years of experience in media communications, and/or public relations functions.
Licenses / Certificates

Valid CA driver's license preferred.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: $3,761 - $5,834 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,761 - $6,803 per month

Time Base

Full-time temporary position for two (2) years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
