Educational Requirements for the Position

Bachelor’s Degree in marketing or communications with at least two years’ experience in relationship management, social media, communications, or a related field. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills are required. A writing sample will need to be provided. Candidates must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). An ideal candidate would possess experience with technologies such as Access, Adobe, Creative Suite, and Blackbaud, or another non-profit suite of products. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

The Donor Relations Coordinator works closely with the Assistant Vice President of Development in the development and implementation of a donor relations plan that will support the philanthropic team in their efforts to enhance and deepen donor relationships with Sam Houston State University. The scope of work includes donor relations, social media, stewardship strategies, and related communications for the Division of University Advancement (Development, Alumni & Annual Giving, Advancement Services and The Museum).

Primary Responsibilities

The Donor Relations Coordinator is responsible for the administration of donor relations and stewardship plans and provides comprehensive support to University Advancement Division with a focus on enhancing constituent relationships, communications, and social media. Responsibilities include the ability to maintain positive and mutually rewarding relations among the university and its donors, partner with University Advancement Staff on stewardship strategies for key donors and build ongoing and active networking opportunities with campus and external constituents to promote a culture of philanthropy.

Candidates must be able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment, be detail-oriented and well organized. Candidates must be highly motivated, energetic, a self-starter, and maintain a high level of confidentiality. Candidates must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, meet deadlines, and use sound judgment when interacting with others. Combination of on campus and remote work, subject to need as determined by supervisor. Attending events may be required, on as case by case basis. This position will help promote all University Advancement Areas.

Up to 60% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
