Job Description
Ball State University welcomes applications for a Communications Manager within the Office of Community Engagement. Position Function: Develop, implement, and continuously improve internal and external strategies to increase and elevate awareness of the university’s extensive anchor institution and community engagement activities. Support the Associate Vice President as an external designee in matters related to university-community engagement.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in related field (e.g., communication, journalism, marketing, business, English, public relations). Two years of experience in higher education outreach and engagement services or private/ public sector community development programs; practical project management experience; supervisory experience. Three years of experience in communications, media-marketing, and/or media-related coordinative positions.
Minimum Other: Superior communication, storytelling, and interpersonal skills; strong analytical capability. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with community and economic development concepts. Leadership qualities and interpersonal skills needed to collaborate with diverse groups, professionals, and top-level management. Ability to create reports, presentations, press releases, informational documents, and social media content. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently and as part of a team. Ability to develop, facilitate, and lead meetings.
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in related field (e.g., communication, journalism, marketing, public relations, business, English). Strategic planning; writing and designing annual reports; working with media and design professionals; photography and video editing; audience analysis; working within branding guidelines. One-year supervisory experience.
Preferred Other: Knowledge of local/regional strategic development priorities and initiatives; knowledge of outreach, engagement, and anchor institution best practices in higher education; design capabilities; proficiency with software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, Final Cut Pro or Premiere; knowledge of local, regional, state, and higher education media outlets.
Salary Range: $60,000 – $64,500.00
